Another standard poker hand is the straight flush. This is a five-card hand whose best possible draw is the ace. The ace is also used as a low card in some games.
The optimal poker strategy is to play all hands with a value of six or more. Optimal strategy also says that the player should fold all hands with a lower value. A straight can be a five-card hand if two players each have a high-value card. Generally, a poker hand is only considered to be a straight if the bettor has a higher value card.
Most modern poker variants have an ante, or forced bet, as the first bet. This is a way for the players to have something to chase. Traditionally, the ante is only used if the player is required to put money into the pot before the start of the game.
One of the most popular poker variants is the three-card brag. Developed from Primero, this gentleman’s game is still popular in the U.K. Today, it is played in a number of different forms, including the modern version of Stud Poker. However, the original form of the game, where each player is dealt three cards, has largely died out.
